Poppies...Poppies...

Another amazing shot by Dan Pierce. This was taken yesterday at Gorman, CA. I could not resist posting it. Dan wrote me that someone had predicted this would not be a good poppy year.

Wisteria Time

This majestic wisteria vine is blooming between my house and my neighbor Dana's house. It is on her property but was planted by my house's former owner, so I take care of it. Last February (2007) I did a major pruning, so the result was low-key. This spring I looked at the tendrils and decided to let it go for a year. So glad I did.

Another neighbor, Chuck, provided these photos. [Thanks, Chuck!]

Poem

[Image: Dragon Trees, by Solkoll, Wikimedia Commons]

Has someone
said
or written
that dreams
are a kind
of salvation--
or damnation.

Or
(more simply)
a portal
to the only
other world
we can
really be certain
exists--

the world
of branching
fractal
possibilities.

There
you
were

dearest dearest
Kamaki

turning a corner
and
walking
towards me--

your face
shining
with
happiness.

Spring in the Antelope Valley

One of the most beautiful things about California is the spring wildflowers. My old friend Dan Pierce just sent me two images from a recent visit to the Antelope Valley. It is famous for its California poppies, but there are many other flowers to enjoy. This is prime viewing season. If you go, you can pretend you are Dorothy or Toto--on the way to Emerald City.
[Thanks, Dan.]
