Foggy Summer

This mysterious steeple is on a building that may have been a church at one time, in Mendocino, CA. (How's that for a punchy opening line?) I think it is a bank now.

Just wanted to check in and let my readers know I am doing OK. Woke up this morning to fog. It is gradually lightening, peaceful for a Sunday morning. Need to make a few phone calls to see how East Coast relatives are doing in the storm.

It has been so cool and foggy here this summer. I guess I am really a Bay Area person; it feels normal to me.

I have been busy adjusting to my new job as a course developer and instructor.

Also taking one night a week to work on writing. I'm working on new poems, and compiling a manuscript.

Take care, all.

Cloud Gazing

Looking at the sky must be one of the most underrated things in the world. It's wonderful and--obviously--always there. Historically the profession of dreamers and layabouts (the perfect position for viewing said sky), cloud gazing could possibly be the beginning of several more respectable careers: meteorologist, ornithologist, painter, poet. Those all sound like pretty good jobs to me!

My year of observing the SF Bay is coming to a close. Will I stop? Of course not. But I wanted to observe consciously, in four seasons, and see what I could see in a year. Here is a recent entry.

3/7/11
At 6 pm the bay strafed with wind, water dark green, sky pale blue with threatening, moving clouds. At one point the sky opens -- a portal in the clouds for the gods to view the scene below. The aperture ringed with feathery white clouds, undulating. The sky above it the deepest radiant blue.

A note on Japan.
This earthquake and tsunami event was almost beyond probability. I cannot presume to understand the sense of shock and loss in the aftermath. My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones and to those who cannot return to their homes.

rainy rainy day

Just a quick hello to anyone who may have given up on my blog.

I am still here! I took some time off to work on some other things.

My "project" of looking and observing the SF Bay is still going on. Coming up on one year. I will stop then and work on formatting a document. More on this as it develops.

We are truly getting our winter here. So much rain. Today I roasted the pumpkin that had sat on the sideboard since October, and have been eating the (also roasted) seeds. I am going to make a thai curry with the roasted pumpkin.

Much love,
